Kiona Dunn-Henegan, LPC is the Founder and Director of Simple Truth Counseling Center, LLC. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Georgia. She is also a Certified Anger Management Specialist (CAMS II), Certified Trauma Clinician (EMDR), and a Certified Prepare and Enrich facilitator. Additionally, she is Certified Sex Offender Treatment Provider (CSOTP). Kiona earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, South Carolina; her Master of Science degree from Argosy University-Atlanta; and P-12 Teaching Certification from West Georgia.
Kiona’s experience includes working with children, adolescents, and adults providing individual, group, couples and family therapy. She has worked in settings to include private practice and school settings. While she has extensive experience in working with many mental health concerns, Kiona specializes in working with individuals dealing with complex trauma, families, and couples. She uses various modalities in the counseling setting and is trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization) which can be used to treat troubling symptoms, such as anxiety, guilt, anger, depression, panic, abuse, self-esteem and flashbacks that are the result of traumatic experiences.
Kiona offers certified trainings in Prepare and Enrich for clergy, coaches, counselors, and social workers; interested in working with couples in various stages of their relationship. Additionally, she offers support groups for Teachers and Leaders coping with the pandemic and burn-out.
Kiona is committed to assisting people live their best lives beyond anxiety, depression, trauma, abuse, substance abuse, and anger. Kiona believes, “the optics of perfection is rarely every perfect” and focuses on tailoring the needs of her clients and in allowing her clients to set their own treatment goals and guiding them when they become “stuck”. Kiona pulls from various theories to help her clients but focuses on how one’s thoughts, feelings and actions are connected and plays a role in maladaptive behaviors.
Kiona enjoys engaging her clients in the therapeutic process through the use of various tools and the use of journals, that all her clients receive as a gift in learning to re-write their narrative.
